Louisville 27-22 Toledo, Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl of Beans 2025

BOCA RATON, Fla – Louisville football earned the 27-22 victory over Toledo in the 12th annual Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl of Beans, held at Flagler Credit Union Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals (9-4) struck first with an early touchdown and held a 7-3 lead through three quarters. After Louisville tallied multiple scores to try to put the game away, the Rockets (8-5) rallied multiple times with 32 combined points between the two teams in the final 15 minutes.

FIRST HALF

The Cardinals offense came out swinging, with redshirt sophomore RB Keyjuan Brown taking the first play from scrimmage 31 yards on a carry up the middle. The eight-play drive culminated in redshirt senior QB Miller Moss finding redshirt junior WR TreyShun Hurry between Rocket defenders for a 17-yard score.

On Toledo’s opening drive, an attempted scramble from redshirt freshman QB Kalieb Osborne turned into a fumble forced by Louisville’s redshirt junior DL Clev Lubin and recovered by redshirt senior DB JoJo Evans Jr. in Rocket territory. But the Rockets slowed the Cardinals’ momentum with two sacks and a blocked field goal to get the ball back.

The Rockets drove into Cardinal territory and converted a 41-yard field goal to cut the score to 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. A quiet second saw the two teams trade seven punts

SECOND HALF

Out of the locker room, Toledo worked its way to the red zone before a penalty stalled the drive and a 41-yard field goal attempt sailed right. The Cardinals responded with a 77-yard march down the field with Moss hitting sophomore WR Antonio Meeks on a slant for the 11-yard touchdown to go up 14-3.

The Cardinals put more points on the board at the start of the fourth quarter with sophomore RB Isaac Brown going into the end zone untouched for a 21-3 lead. The Rockets did not go down without a fight on their ensuing drive. Facing a fourth-and-11 on the Cardinals’ 26, Osborne found senior TE Jacob Peterson running the seam route, who avoided tackles from multiple defenders and muscled his way into the end zone. Toledo converted the two-point conversion to close the gap to 21-11.

Sophomore kicker Robert Hammond III converted a 50-yard field goal to bring within one score. The Cardinals answered three plays later with a 53-yard touchdown run by Keyjuan Brown, but Toledo’s senior CB Avery Smith blocked the extra point and returned it the other way for two points for a 27-16 score.

With the ball back, Toledo took a 32-yard kick return and multiple explosive plays on offense, ending a drive with a three-yard touchdown by senior RB Chip Trayanum. The two-point conversion failed, keeping the score at 27-22 with just over two minutes remaining. Louisville held possession the rest of the way with key first downs to seal the victory.

QUOTABLE

LOUISVILLE

Head Coach Jeff Brohm

“Give [Toledo] credit, they fought hard, fought until the end and made it a close game. But our guys, we have played games like this all year long, so I’m proud of them for staying together and playing until the end and just finding a way to win. That’s the most important thing.”

Redshirt Senior QB Miller Moss

“It has been a wild ride. I feel extremely grateful for the opportunities that I have had, for the opportunities that Coach Brohm and the University of Louisville have afforded me. I’m savoring it all…I feel like I have gotten the full college football experience.”

Redshirt Junior DL Clev Lubin

“Just every day, you have to go out for the opportunity that is in front of you. It’s just another game for us, just going out there and having an opportunity to compete in a game. We gameplanned just to make sure to that we can stop them in every way possible and come out with a win in this game.”

TOLEDO

Interim Head Coach Robert Weiner

“We love the game because you can potentially lose the game. That’s what makes our game beautiful: that you have to scratch and claw with everything you have to not lose the game. With that being said, we got as close as we could tonight to that because we did scratch and claw with every inch that we had. We had moments where we gave them opportunities and then moments where we recovered from that.”

Redshirt Freshman QB Kalieb Osborne

“There’s a lot I learned: just taking my reads, having a process and breathing before every play. Just having my guys that have my back, I just have to take it slow and breathe. But from this game I learned a lot. Just the brotherhood that we have, we just kept driving.”

Senior S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren

“It means everything. Just playing with your brothers, you’re going to miss it. I just love it.”
