Audience and Judges’ Votes Combined to Select Performer of the National Anthem at the 2019 Bowl Game;

Thousands of Dollars Raised for Bowl Charity Partner Spirit of Giving

 

BOCA RATON, Fla. (August 2, 2019) – Before a packed house filled with city and county officials, business and community leaders, finalists’ friends and family and Bowl fans, the eight finalists took the stage last night in the 2019 Built Ford Tough Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Idol talent competition presented by Marshall Grant, PLLC at BRIC. After performing live in two rounds to win the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the 2019 bowl game on Saturday, December 21 at FAU Stadium, Evelyn and Raphael Martins, a sister/brother duet​ triumphed. Held at Boca Raton Innovation Campus, the event was part of the month-long Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Festival Days and benefited the Bowl’s Charity Partner Spirit of Giving and its Back to School Bash.

 

Chosen through an open-to-the-public round of online voting, the eight finalists ranged in age from 13 to 44 and hailed from Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hobe Sound, Port St. Lucie and Wellington. Each performed a song of their choice for the live audience and a combination of audience votes and judges’ selections determined the top three.

 

The top three who made it on to the final round of the competition to perform the National Anthem for the judges to determine the reigning champion were:

  • ​​Hannah Crampton-Thomas, 20, a vocalist in the amateur category from Boca Raton who sang “They Just Keep Moving the Line”
  • Evelyn Martins, 31, and Raphael Martins, 28, a vocalist duet in the amateur category from Deerfield Beach who sang “Speechless”
  • Emily Rubino, 15, a vocalist in the amateur category from Boca Raton who sang “Don’t Rain on My Parade”

The winners of the 2019 Built Ford Tough Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Idol talent competition presented by Marshall Grant, PLLC at BRIC say they look forward to performing the National Anthem during opening ceremonies to a stadium crowd prior to game kick-off. They receive 10 game tickets for family and friends that include sideline access during the performance.

 

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Evelyn and Raphael, have been singing together since their early teens and are highly involved with their church community at Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach County. They regularly post songs to their YouTube channel called “MartinsMusic”. Evelyn who works at Mobile Help at BRIC and Raphael who works at Language Line Solutions are passionate shared that they are “excited to sing the national anthem to honor our country and the freedom that we have.”

 

ESPN Radio Personality, Ken LaVicka served as emcee. Those serving on the panel of judges were:

About the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl: 2019 Game Moves to New Day, Time and Network

After spending five years on the Tuesday evening before Christmas and being aired on ESPN, the 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl will kick off “in the Florida sunshine” on Saturday afternoon, December 21 at 3:30 p.m. ET at FAU Stadium and will broadcast nationally on ABC as well as on ESPN Radio and locally on ESPN 106.3 FM. The bowl game has conference tie-ins with teams from Conference USA, the American Athletic Conference and the Mid-American Athletic Conference.

 

As one of 41 postseason college bowl games in the country and one of 15 owned and operated by ESPN Events (a division of ESPN) the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl is the only one hosted in Palm Beach County. As a celebrated annual holiday tradition in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County that lives up to its other name, ‘Boca’s Biggest Annual Outdoor Party’, the event features all the pomp and circumstance of traditional bowl events. It is a high-energy, entertaining experience for both college football fans and non-fans alike and allows the national spotlight to shine on Boca Raton and Palm Beach County.
