Through four plus years of existence, the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl has made an indelible impact in college football. And beyond.

As of opening weekend 2018, 27 players on NFL rosters called themselves Boca Raton Bowl vets. Over half of the league had at least one player who participated in the four-year-old bowl game. Lets take a closer look at three of the most impactful performances from the short history of the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl:

RB Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs (2015 – Toledo Rockets)

Kareem Hunt in one season, has become an NFL household name, and a staple for anyone playing fantasy football. But those who sat through the rain at FAU Stadium in 2015 knew all about Hunt’s quick feet, soft hands, and multi-dimensional skill set. The Toledo Rockets’ top weapon scampered for 5.3 yards per carry and sealed a 32-17 win for Toledo over Temple with his 41-yard jaunt into the end zone. Two years later, NFL teams got gashed by Hunt, who led the league with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie.

OL Forrest Lamp, Los Angeles Chargers (2016 – WKU Hilltoppers)

Forrest Lamp was identified as a surefire first-round pick coming into Western Kentucky’s 2016 showdown with Memphis. That was as an interior offensive lineman. Nearly 25,000 patrons at FAU Stadium saw a different side of Lamp. Late in the first quarter, WKU interim coach Nick Holt reached down into his bag of tricks and pulled out the ol’ lateral play – to 310-pound Lamp. QB Mike White, now a rookie with the Dallas Cowboys, tossed the ball to Lamp, and he did the rest, rumbling nine-yards for one of the Boca Bowl’s most infamous scores. The Hilltoppers ended up winning 51-31, and WKU fans indeed “loved Lamp.”

WR Taywan Taylor, Tennessee Titans (2016 – WKU Hilltoppers)

Hilltoppers fans also loved their conventional wide receivers, and none more so than Taywan Taylor. The Louisville native entered the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl as WKU’s single-season record holder in catches (98), receiving yards (1,730) and touchdowns (17). So it was a given that Taylor would fill up the stat sheet in late December. The speedster opened the second-half hauling in a 41-yard touchdown pass, part of a nine-catch, 144-yard evening. A few months later, Taylor became a third-round selection in the NFL Draft.
